Temasek Life Sciences Laboratories, in collaboration with Cisgenics, initiated an innovative rice cultivation trial in Lim Chu Kang, Singapore, to address the challenges of water scarcity and environmental impact in traditional rice farming. The project aimed to demonstrate significant water savings and increased yields using drip irrigation instead of conventional flood irrigation methods.
Cisgenics implemented CisgenX irrigation control system to manage this trial, leveraging advanced technology for precise water and nutrient management. The system’s role included collecting sensor data, driving irrigation based on evapotranspiration rates, managing fertigation, monitoring plant health, and tracking yield. This approach optimised water usage and aimed to reduce methane emissions, a significant concern in traditional rice cultivation.
The trial showcases how our next-generation irrigation technology can revolutionise rice production, making it more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
By combining Temasek Life Sciences Laboratories’ agricultural expertise with Cisgenics’ advanced irrigation solutions, this project represents a significant step towards developing sustainable food production methods in land-scarce urban environments like Singapore, potentially offering a model for rice cultivation in other water-stressed regions globally.
